Ed Shumaker – Joins Less Cancer Bike Ride to Mackinac

I’m Ed Shumaker, a sixty-eight year old summer resident of Port Huron, Michigan where the PH to Mac Less Cancer Ride will begin.  I’m fortunate to have been healthy enough to participate in group bike rides and triathlons for many years, but none with such a bold goal as Less Cancer.

My relationship with the organization probably started in the early 1960’s when our family became neighbors with Bill Couzens’ family.  There’s something about the relationships you form when you’re younger.  Couzens boys knew when the Shumaker boys snatched their football or Frisbee and we knew when the Couzens took our bikes for a ride.  That’s why when one of us contacts the other or becomes aware of something for which we enjoy a mutual respect, we try to take action.  We will answer Bill’s call.

I’m pleased to join the ride on July 12^th.  It should help heighten awareness of how prevention can help marginalize this crippling, costly disease.
