A cancerresearch center that could house from 500 to 1,000 employees is planned in Shadyside.

UPMC is developing plans for the 350,000-square-foot facility, which would combine the former Ford Motor Co. building it owns on Baum Boulevard with a new building at the corner of Morewood and Centre avenues.

The center would contain lab and office space to relieve the overcrowding at the 350,000-square-foot Hillman Cancer Center.

“The shape of the new building is still being changed, but it will sit atop three levels of underground parking that will provide 320 parking spaces,” said Benjamin Kelley, development manager for Oxford Development Co., at the monthly meeting of the Shadyside Action Coalition on Monday…….
