A woman has conceived Britain’s first baby guaranteed to be free from hereditary breast cancer.
Doctors screened out from the woman’s embryos an inherited gene that would have left the baby with a greater than 50% chance of developing the cancer.
we must not lose site of the fact that most cases of breast cancer originate, not from heredity but rather from environmental links outside of our bodies.
Our environment must not be overlooked in the work in reducing incidences of cancer.
Scientist tell us that most cancers are linked to the environment, to
include lifestyle factors such as diet, tobacco, and alcohol, as well as radiation, infectious agents, and substances in the air, water, and soil.
Work must continue towards closing the gap relative to the reduction of cancer causing exposures and incidences of breast cancer.
