Equally important to preventing pesticide drift is the prevention of unnecessary and preventable “exposures” other than from pesticide drift that can occur as an outcome of agricultural operations in close proximity to schools.

One accident recently occurred in a Virginia community when a non-pesticide substance drifted onto children while at school, and though not a pesticide, it was a corrosive that has been associated with causing harm to human health.

This accident could have been prevented had the site not been allowed by the state of Virginia to move adjacent to the school as it did in this instance. In Virginia there is nothing in place to protect these children with these types of exposures. Virginia Schools are not poised to protect their communities from such exposures and or accidents that are currently happening in Virginia. END
